Volunteer of the Year Award

2017_VolunteerOfYear.jpg

Our first award is for Volunteer of the Year. This award is given to an individual for outstanding service who has demonstrated a high level of motivation and countless contributions to the essential operations of the Federation.

Karen Hoover began supporting the Missouri Hunting Heritage Federation before it was born or had a name. It was her husband’s dream and she has nurtured it from conception. She acted as Allan’s sounding board, provided questions and feedback.

As founding Executive Director, Allan took many trips representing MHHF including annual meetings of the Missouri Hunter Education Instructors Association, the International Hunter Education Association and the Conservation Federation of Missouri and Karen was always at his side.

She helped him keep track of people, new contacts, ideas and possibilities.

Since the beginning she has served as hunter education instructor, hunt mentor and provided support in all aspects of our clinics, including the preparation, packing up and putting away.

When Allan passed away she could have stepped back and everyone would have understood, but she has continued to support us. If there is an MHHF event whether it’s a social, gala, or a benefit, Karen is always there helping to make it a success.

Karen is not just our 2017 Volunteer of the Year, she is our founding volunteer. We are all indebted, grateful and inspired.

Alan Hoover Award

Our next award is the Allan Hoover Award. Named for our founding life member and Executive Director, this award is given to an individual or company whose selfless actions have resulted in marked improvement in the quality, recognition, or acceptance of the federation and to forward its intended vision.

Our organization is extremely fortunate to be partnered with Wayne Baier and Baier’s Den Kennels.    Wayne & his wife Pat Baier,   who passed away earlier this year, welcomed us wholeheartedly from our first meeting.

Their generosity has been never ending.  Immediately after our first clinic with Baer’s Den, Wayne & Pat wanted to host another and have continued to host two a year since.

They immediately introduced us to West Central Missouri Chapter of Quails Forever members, Glen Coleman, Andy Carmack and Tom Lampy.

We stay in touch throughout the year, discussing the next clinic, looking for ways to improve. Wayne is always on the lookout for more opportunities to offer to our kids, whether they be current students or past participants.

Wayne provides so much for our clinics: facility for classroom & live fire session, land for hunting, dog handlers & dogs, birds for the field… and even in an emergency… a clay thrower.

He has introduced others who share our passion to introduce youth to hunting and THEY have in turn, brought more to our organization; sponsors, prospective mentors and instructors, and families participating in our clinics.

Wayne & Pat have been gracious, humble, generous and welcoming.  They treat everyone as family!

Wayne, thank you so much.
