The Cass County Turkey Clinic April 8th & 9th completed our schedule of clinics this spring. (See photos elsewhere in this update.) In addition to the turkey clinic, MHHF also hosted a chukar clinic in April. In total, we had 15 youth participants, 8 girls and 7 boys. All chukar clinic participants harvested a chukar. One (big!) turkey was taken during the turkey clinic. Thank you to all of the MHHF, Cass County volunteers for their efforts to pass along Missouri’s hunting tradition!
Just as the seasons change, MHHF activity now turns from staging clinics to long and short-range planning. President-Elect Stacie Hubler and I will be traveling to Jefferson City in early May to meet with various Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) leaders. The purpose of these meetings is to assure MHHF efforts are in alignment with, and continue to support, MDC’s hunter education and hunter recruitment goals. The department has announced that as of July first of this year, students 16-years and older will be able to receive the Missouri Hunter Education Certification completely online. We’re not sure how, or if, this will impact our clinics.
Later in May, Federation directors will meet to review MHHF goals and set new ones for the coming year. Fall and 2018 spring clinics will be scheduled. We will also prepare our Annual Review to keep our supporters informed of our progress.
